Coming Fall 2025
We started praying God would open doors to plant a church in Kearney.
Back in 2018, we felt convinced that the next, most strategic place to plant a church would be in Kearney, NE.
Connections were made amongst the community and the university.
Over the past eight years numerous Kearney residents, local and sent, asked us to plant a church in the city they call home.
God answered our prayer for a planter to head the Kearney church plant.
In September of 2023, Kyle and his family started praying about Jesus leading them back to Kearney to plant a church there.
Meet Kyle
Back in 1995, Kyle stepped onto UNK’s campus as a new believer and an incoming freshmen. Ten years later, he returned and worked for a college ministry at that very same campus! He helped college students, just like him, come to know and follow Jesus. Fast forward a little more, to April of 2024 — Kyle, his wife, and five children said yes to moving in order to plant Citylight Kearney.
Kyle loves his family! He enjoys listening to and playing music, a good cup of coffee, a compelling book, and throwing a ball or riding a paddle board with his dogs Chase and Sully. He is a part time DJ, a die hard Husker fan and he loves calling high school football games on the radio!
Welcome to Kearney
Kearney is a town of around 37, 087 people, making it the fifth biggest city in Nebraska. And would you believe, almost one-sixth of that number is made up of college students! God has so clearly laid this city on our heart, and has opened up so many doors already. Our prayer is that college students would come to know Jesus, that God would do a work only He could do, and that this town of 37,087 people would choose to radically follow the Lord and proclaim His Gospel to the ends of the earth!
